After their thrilling derby win on Sunday, Sheffield United will be riding high ahead of this fixture against a Wolves side who’ve been tipped by many for promotion. Chris Wilder’s men may also have their sights set on promotion after their impressive start. Having seemingly made the transition from League One to the Championship with ease, and it’s fair to say that the Blades , who’re currently in a lofty 4th position, are more than worthy of their place at this level.

Wolves have also made a very pleasing start to the campaign as they sit in 2nd place, behind league leaders Leeds on goal difference only. However, as good as they have been, it is a bit surprising that they come into this away match as favourites. Sheffield United are no mugs, certainly not on their own patch anyway. In fact, a recent narrow 1-0 defeat against Norwich was the Blades’ first home defeat in the league since January. At odds of 2/1, the hosts appear to have been somewhat underestimated and are worth supporting as a result.

As mentioned, Chris Wilder’s men are a very useful outfit overall, but especially at home. So far this season, the Blades have dropped points in just one of their five home matches, scoring eight and conceding four in the process. What’s more, as an well-organised unit, they’re not the sort of side to give much away, even against useful opposition such as Wolves. Not only are the Blades organised from back to front, but they’re, perhaps more importantly, a side, with the likes of Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke in their ranks, a side who’re blessed with firepower. Additionally, the fact that they’re adept at sitting deep before hitting on the counter, should see them fare well in this match against a Wolves side who’re likely to come forward.

Beating a visiting team who’re proving to be very good indeed certainly won’t be easy, but this is the sort of game where Chris Wilder’s side really could thrive. If they’re capable of keeping things tight at the back, which is entirely possible on their own patch, then hitting on the counter will become a viable option. Of course, keeping this Wolves side quiet is easier said than done; however, we have seen recently that they can be stopped. The visitors were shutout recently by Brentford – a match where the hosts did a good job of nullifying Nuno Espírito Santo’s attack, while they also made hard work of notching against Barnsley – failing to score before the 80th minute – last time out  Having seen these matches, Wednesday’s hosts might just be confident of keeping the visitors at bay.

Another bet that stands out at the prices ahead of this fixture is ‘Both Teams to Score – NO’. With these two teams both being more than useful defensively, a repeat of Sunday’s thrilling derby encounter, in which Sheffield United scored four and conceded two, seem highly unlikely. Based on what we’ve seen from each side so far this season, goals could be at a real premium in this fixture and so, at even-money, getting behind at least one side to fail in front of goal makes plenty of sense too.

Taking everything into consideration, in what ought to be a tight, low-scoring affair, punters are urged to get behind the Blades to come out on top under the lights at Bramall Lane.
