The West London derby hits our TV screens on Friday night as QPR play host to Fulham at Loftus Road. After a rocky start to the new season, the visitors are starting to gather momentum as they aim to move into the coveted top six. However, facing a QPR side who’ve performed respectably in recent weeks won’t be easy. In fact, this match will probably be far less easy for the visiting side than the early betting suggests.

QPR may well be without a win in three league matches, but they’ve lost none of those and have been playing reasonably well in truth. Ian Holloway has certainly improved the fortunes of the West London club since re-joining around a year ago, and it would be no surprise if, with “Ollie” at the helm from the off, the Hoops enjoyed a good campaign.

Having made the play-offs last season, Fulham are expected to do big things this season; however, they’re yet to really create an impression which suggests that promotion is an easily obtainable objective. Slaviša Jokanović’s men, who’ve won just three of their opening ten matches, are yet to really hit their stride. With this in mind, alongside the fact that QPR have shown up pretty well on home soil so far this season, it’s difficult to see just why the visitors come into this match as strong favourites. Quite frankly, at the prices, the hosts are the only team to be with. A price of 23/10 about the home win is well worth snapping up.

As far as QPR are concerned, though wins have seemingly been hard to come by of late, good performances have not. Holloway’s side are defending pretty well, while they’ve also looked handy at the other end of proceedings. The R’s might’ve failed to score in their latest home match, which was a 0-0 draw against Burton, but their performance was not without promise; going forward they created reasonable opportunities, while they also looked solid at the back. Fulham are a side who can test a team’s resilience a bit more than Burton managed to, but QPR should be suited by the likely open nature of this fixture. Having looked to get on the front foot, creating chances and scoring six goals in four home matches, it’s easy to envisage the hosts getting plenty of joy against a visiting defence that has looked anything but sturdy of late.

Fulham are of course a side who can cause teams plenty of problems; they created good chances away at a struggling Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, but they also gave plenty away. The 1-3 score-line suggests that it was a fairly comfortable evening for the visitors, though, that’s not the case. Had Forest capitalised on some good opportunities, the final score could’ve looked very different. That was not the first time that Fulham have been guilty of poor defending on the road this season – Jokanović’s men are regularly conceding chances away from home and have perhaps been a bit fortunate to concede just four goals in five travelling matches – and it probably won’t be the last. Prior to that victory at the City Ground, Fulham lost 2-1 away at Burton, once again paying the price for some sloppy defending.

All things considered, based on this pair’s exploits so far this season, it’s easy to fancy the hosts ahead of this match. Holloway’s men aren’t likely to hold back and will be chomping at the bit to punish any weak Fulham defending, of which there’s been plenty of late. At the prices, it’s worth getting behind the home side to get their just rewards for some promising recent showings.
