Fulham receive a boost in their attempt to stop Newcastle United this weekend after reports claim Allan Saint-Maximin could miss the tie with an injury

Newcastle United Allan Saint-Maximin likely to miss Fulham trip with injury

Newcastle United are unlikely to have their talisman in Allan Saint-Maximin in the squad against Fulham this weekend after due to an injury, according to reports.

The Magpies have struggled this season so far, drawing five of their opening seven Premier League matches and whatever plans they have to return back to winning ways against Fulham, have been thwarted by Saint-Maximin’s fitness level.

Allan Saint-Maximin has missed Newcastle United’s last four games due to a muscle injury, and it’s safe to claim that his absence has done more harm and good to Eddie Howe’s team.

Although, there were suggestions that the French winger would be available for selection this weekend against the Cottagers, The Athletic have reported otherwise, claiming the 25-year-old France international is not expected to make his return this week at least.

The report added that Allan Saint-Maximin will rather continue rehabilitation process and Newcastle will resist any urge to force his return to the team.

Eddie Howe could also be without Bruno Guimaraes this weekend against Fulham after the midfielder has left the Brazil camp earlier than expected to England with a suspected injury.

Guimaraes is expected to be assessed by Newcastle United’s medical team but reports are describing the injury as ‘not severe’, meaning he has not totally been ruled out of this weekend’s trip.

Furthermore, Callum Wilson could be available for selection against the Whites and that is expected to be a bit of fresh air for Howe, whose squad has been depleted with a number of injured key players.

Newcastle United currently occupy the 10th position in the Premier League with eight points [1W5D1L] but a win over Marco Silva’s side this weekend would see them leapfrog the Cottagers, who currently occupy the 6th position with 11 points.

Both clubs have 1 goal difference each, meaning a win for Newcastle would see them go ahead of Fulham on goal difference but that would be tricky, given Marco Silva’s side’s current form – three wins in their last five games.
