According to reports, Manchester United have no plans to loan Harry Maguire to West Ham this month, and Erik ten Hag still believes he has a significant role to play this season.

Since the new manager took over, the Red Devils captain has fallen down the pecking order and has only started one of United’s last four Premier League games since the World Cup ended.

Maguire was replaced in the starting lineup by summer signing Lisandro Martinez, but Ten Hag has recently preferred to use Luke Shaw at left center-back alongside Raphael Varane.

The 29-year-old is now effectively the club’s fourth-choice center-back option, and there have been rumors that the club is willing to sell him, especially with Victor Lindelof also among Ten Hag’s many options at the back.

Aston Villa have been linked with an audacious move for the England international after he was spotted near their training ground, while West Ham have also been considering a bid.

According to BBC Sport, the Hammers have made contact with their Manchester United counterparts to discuss the possibility of taking Maguire on loan until the end of the season.

West Ham believed United might be open to doing the same with Maguire because of the success of a similar loan move for Jesse Lingard a couple of years ago.

However, West Ham’s approach was dismissed, and they were told there was “no chance” Maguire would leave this month.

United do not want to jeopardize their squad depth while still competing in three cup competitions and potentially competing for the Premier League title.

Despite his recent lack of playing time, Ten Hag believes Maguire has a significant role to play at the club, both this season and in the future.

Meanwhile, West Ham have been hampered by an injury crisis at the back, with summer signing Nayef Aguerd limited to just two starts and Angelo Ogbonna making only four appearances.

Manager David Moyes is keen to bring in reinforcements in both defence and attack this month, with Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri a long-time target.
