England manager Gareth Southgate believes Marcus Rashford could have scored a hat-trick against Wales on Tuesday night in the World Cup.

England head coach Gareth Southgate has claimed that Marcus Rashford could have scored a hat-trick against Wales and also pointed out that he’s improved massively from last summer.

Rashford was dreadful last season for the Three Lions in the Euro 2020 and missed a crucial penalty that resulted in England’s defeat to Italy on penalties in the final.

The Man United forward struggled with his consistency last year and started more games for Manchester United as a substitute.

However, this season he’s shown several noteworthy moments that he’s gradually returning to the force he once was under former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he showed that in a crucial game against Wales on Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old started and and scored twice in the second half as England won 3-0 against Wales and yes, he could have scored a hat-trick if he made no mistakes with his big chance in the first half.

Gareth Southgate has agreed that the Man United no.10 has improved on his form and is in a totally different form in the World Cup than he was at the Euro 2020.

Speaking after Rashford’s superb performance, he said: “I saw him [Marcus Rashford] in the summer and [we] had a long chat.

“He had some clear ideas on things he felt he needed to think about and do. With his club there’s happiness in his performances this year, and that’s shown in training.

“We’ve got a different version completely to the player that we had in the Euros last summer. He’s managed to produce those moments tonight, he could’ve had a hat-trick, but it’s great for him and it’s great for us.”

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has also heaped praise on the Manchester United attacker and admitted that he can be ‘crucial’ for England going forward in the ongoing Qatar World Cup, thanks to his superb form.

The Man City star said: “He’s [Marcus Rashford] unbelievable, isn’t he? We seen today how crucial he’s going to be for us in the next stages. We’re going to need him, for sure.”
