Arsenal begin talks with club as they look to beat Tottenham to second signing in 72 hours
After losing out to Chelsea in the race to sign Mykhailo Mudryk last weekend, the Premier League leaders are still looking to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Arsenal are in talks to sign Leandro Trossard this month, with Brighton wantin in excess of £20 million for the 28-year-old, whose contract runs out at the end of the season.
The Gunners are said to have already agreed a contract with Trossard, who had a fallout with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and wants to leave in the January transfer window.
However, according to La Repubblica, Arsenal has held preliminary talks about a possible deal for Roma’s versatile midfielder Zaniolo.
According to the report, the Serie A club is willing to sell the 23-year-old this month in exchange for a £35 million transfer fee.
The Gunners, however, face stiff competition from their Premier League rivals, as Sky Italy reports that Tottenham have already had an offer for the Italy international rejected.
Roma would also be willing to let Zaniolo leave on loan if an obligation to buy was included in the agreement.
Zaniolo has struggled for form this season, and he was booed by Roma fans as he exited the field during last week’s 1-0 win over Genoa.
The midfielder then missed the 2-0 win over Fiorentina on Sunday due to illness, but it’s been reported that he now wants to leave the club.
The 23-year-old had been in talks with Roma about extending his contract, which is set to expire next year, but talks have slowed in recent months, and the Serie A club is now willing to cash in.
